Highgate was one of a number of 'super cemeteries' created to ease the pressure on overcrowded parish burial grounds in London. After falling into dilapidation, a charity was formed to restore the graveyard to it's former glory. It's now a pleasant and peaceful place. Notable memorials include Karl Marx, Douglas Adams, George Eliot and Michael Faraday's. Highgate also has a sinister side, it was the scene of a series of strange events attributed to the Highgate Vampire and a filming location for Hammer horror films. |

Golders Green Crematorium
The mauseoleum and gardens at this crematorium are open to the public, several notable persons are interred here including Sigmund Freud, Peter Sellers and Marc Bolan.
