2012 Summer Olympics
Jul 27 to Aug 12
London will host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. This will be its third time to do so, having hosted in 1908 and 1948. Things have changed a bit since those times. Fortunately, new venues are being built, which is an understatement. Most venues will be in London, but some events are as far as Glasgow, Scotland. There will be many ways to travel to events including coach services, park-and-ride, trains, river tour, river bus and private coaches. The main games area is referred to as Olympic Park, which is currently cordoned off by an 11-mile blue fence. It transforms a 2.5-sq-km area of London that was unused contaminated land. Along with inspiring amateur athletes, spectators will also see professionals for team competitions, such as footballer, David Beckham.
